Yoga Nidra—translated as psychic sleep—is a method to withdraw from the outside world into a supremely relaxed-but-aware inner state, somewhere between waking and sleep.
The basic methods taught today were introduced in the mid 1900s by Swami Satyananada Saraswati, founder of the Bihar School of Yoga in India, based on his research into tantric scriptures and personal mental and spiritual experiences.
In Yoga Nidra, gentle instructions guide practitioners through a series of steps, including the rotation of awareness through the physical body, breathing techniques, visualisations, and a statement or ‘resolve’—a powerful declaration to create what you want.
Regular practice promotes deep physical, mental and emotional relaxation; restful sleep; enhanced memory and creativity; the release of old habits; and promotion of balance, self-healing and spiritual growth.
Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down, and is accessible to all abilities and ages.
I guide individuals and groups through the practice of Yoga Nidra, and record customised Yoga Nidra meditations for home use.
